Step 1: 80's Makeup
Modernize a retro 80's makeup look with a dewy complexion, played up with striking blush and pink lips. Makeup artist Brian Bond has the steps on how to get perfect 80's look this Halloween.
Step 2: 80's Face Prep
Apply M.A.C. Prep + Prime Skin to smooth out the skin and create the perfect canvas for blending. Hold off on applying foundation until you are done with the eyes. You want to do your skin last to prevent prevent heavy eye shadow colors from falling underneath your eyes and ruining an immaculate complexion.
Step 3: 80's Eye Makeup
Start by applying M.A.C. Hush Cream Color Base around the entire eye using your finger. Begin at the lash line and blend all the way up to the brow bone for an ombre effect. For a true 80's look, blue and pink eye shadow colors are a must. the trick is to make sure the eyes don't look too heavy."Carve out" the crease with pink shadow using a standard crease brush (we like M.A.C. by Louder, Please). Starting at the inner corner of the crease, sweep the color on with the brush, moving back and forth like a windshield wiper.
Step 4: 80's Eyeshadows
For the eyelid, lightly pat a frosty pink eye shadow onto your eyelid and blend into the crease color (we like M.A.C. Eye Shadow in Swish). Start at the lash line and work your way up to the eyelid and crease, so that most of the product is across your lash line and lid. By overlapping colors as little as possible and working up instead of down, you keep your crease color vibrant and your makeup application fast and clean.
Step 5: 80's Eyeliner
Now, you are going to line the eyes using a precise eyeliner brush and a black gel liner. Start at the outer corner of the eye and brush inwards so that the line naturally thins as you approach the inner corner.
Step 6: 80's Eyeliner Cont.
Create contrast by outlining the entire eye with blue. To do this, apply a bright frosted blue, Bond recommends M.A.C. Eye Shadow in Contrast, along the top lash line, then use it to smudge the black gel liner. Start very thin at your inner corner and build color and thickness as you reach your outer corner. Do the same to the lower lid, starting thin at the inner corner and building toward the outer corner.
Step 7: 80's Eyeliner Cont.
Next, add some pop by applying a matte bright blue eye shadow (Bond likes M.A.C. Eye Shadow in Electric Eel) to the inner corner of your bottom lash line. Work your brush from the inner corner outward, across the frosted blue. This subtle smudging and highlighting gives the 80's pink and blue a beautifully modern edge.Rim the waterline with black eyeliner. Apply a coat of and then apply your false lashes. Pinch your natural lashes and false lashes together and finish with one last coat of mascara.
Step 8: 80's Face and Cheeks
Now that we are done with the eyes, you can apply your foundation. For blush, go bold by using a pink color to contour your cheek bones. You want to apply a heavy matte-pink blush directly under the cheekbone (we like M.A.C. Powder Blush in Pink Swoon). Blend to perfection with a clean powder brush to soften up the look. Highlight the high points of the cheekbones with a touch of shimmer.
Step 9: 80's Lips
Prep your lips with a primer (we like M.A.C. Prep + Prime Lip) before applying any color. Using a primer will hold your color and prevent feathering. Line the lips with a bright pink lip liner like NYX Slim Lip Liner in #835 Pinkie. Finish with a long lasting lip gloss like M.A.C. Dazzleglass in Love Alert.
